A visual identity crafted for a rising underground artist and DJ, built primarily on introspection, ethereal 2010s cloud rap, and the gothic feminine inspirations behind her sonic world.
The brand embraces music as a medium of confession, escape, and self-discovery of which Naexx embodies the sacred, the nocturnal, the emotionally raw.

Project Overview
Naexx is an emerging underground artist and DJ whose music moves between introspection, ethereal cloud rap, nocturnal atmosphere, and moments of irreverent confidence.
The identity was developed through an extended interview and collaborative research process with Naomi, translating her musical language, personal history, taste, contradictions, and aspirations into a visual world that could grow alongside her.
Rather than constructing a distant alter ego, the work makes her existing emotional landscape visible: sacred and synthetic, delicate and degraded, hopeful and haunted, deeply sincere with the occasional flash of pure #swag.
The Challenge
Emerging artists are often encouraged to invent a highly constructed persona before they have had time to understand their own creative identity. That approach can produce immediate spectacle but little room for honest evolution.
Naexx needed a system distinctive enough to establish recognition at the beginning of her public career, but personal and flexible enough to remain true as the music changes.
The visual identity also needed to distinguish her from the aggressive and hyper sexualized conventions frequently assigned to women working around hip-hop and electronic music.
The Discovery
The process began with interviews, collaborative moodboarding, musical references, personal memories, religious symbolism, and the physical technology surrounding Naomi’s formative years.
Several recurring ideas emerged:
- Music as confession, diary, and escape.
- The bedroom and internet as early creative sanctuaries.
- Angelic symbolism referencing a traditional Catholic upbringing and the emotional tension between darkness and hope.
- Burned CDs, tangled earbuds, iPod Shuffles, CRT glow, Tumblr, and degraded consumer technology.
- A desire for softness without passivity.
- A tension between private introspection and public ambition.
These ideas became the strategic foundation of the identity rather than a decorative moodboard applied after the fact.
